Mechanical or laser die-cutting: choose the most suitable for your labels

Die-cutting is the cutting of the label through a process that allows the shape of the label to be created.
Today's production of adhesive labels in rolls includes two die-cutting methods: mechanical, with the use of a mechanical sheet called a die, and cutting via laser beam.

Mechanical die-cutting

Mechanical die-cutting with a die is the conventional cutting system and is ideal for any type of material. The cutting speed with a die is significantly higher than that of laser cutting and is suitable for small, medium and large runs.

Exact Label has a fleet of over 4,000 dies, among which you will surely be able to find the most suitable shape for your personalized labels.

Laser die cutting

Laser die cutting is the most advanced system for cutting labels: the costs for the die are eliminated and it is not necessary to create the tool specifically for the chosen format.
The machine setup is faster than mechanical die cutting, so it is suitable for small runs.

Laser die cutting, however, has a series of disadvantages including the unwanted presence of very thin white edges on the perimeter of the label when cutting labels with colors such as black, blue and brown, which would be unsightly when applied to dark-colored containers.

This type of cutting, moreover, is not suitable for all materials and is not recommended when the label is applied with automatic machines, as in some cases the laser beam could engrave the support and cause the label reel to break.
